Memorial honoring Russian nurses is opened in Syria

04.08.2020, Aleppo.

A memorial in honor of military nurses from Russia was opened in Syria, reported the Russia-24 TV channel on August 4.

The memorial was erected at Khmeimim air base, which is located near the Syrian city of Aleppo. The monument memorialized the nurses Nadezhda Durachenko and Galina Mikhailova, who died on December 5, 2016. At that time, they were in a mobile field hospital helping Syrian residents living in Aleppo. Their mobile hospital was hit by artillery.

The decision to establish the memorial was made by the nurses’ colleagues. Its opening was accompanied by music from a military band and a gun salute. Both diseased women had previously been to Syria and had spent three months there, while on their last mission they had spent less than a week. Both of them had children left.
