Lugansk People's Militia: Ukrainian military again opens fire on LPR positions

30.07.2020, Lugansk.

Ukrainian military violated ceasefire by opening fire on the positions of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) servicemen on July 30, the head of the Lugansk People’s Militia Department (LPMD) Colonel Leshchenko said during a briefing.

“Earlier this day, at 0.20 a.m., militants of the 2nd battalion of 93rd independent mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army opened fired in the direction of our defenders’ positions near the village of Golubovka using rocket-propelled grenade launchers (RPG), followed by a shot from the GP-25 under-barrel grenade launchers at 0.50 a.m. At 1.45 a.m., the militants fired four times from RPG and three times from automatic grenade launcher. During the breaks between firing from grenade launchers, the enemy used small arms,” the LPMR press service quotes Leshchenko.

Leshchenko stressed that the grenades were fired in violation of ceasefire, and called them provocative. He also noted that the firing from the Ukrainian side began immediately after the completion of the observation flight of the drone belonging to the OSCE mission. Five minutes before the fire was opened, the Ukrainian soldiers fired a green flare.

The Colonel noted that shortly before the fire was opened, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence had published a report on the inability of the Ukrainian command to take decisions on shelling due to its remoteness from the contact line, therefore the servicemen on the spot were authorized to make these decisions.

At the same time Leshchenko assured that the LPR servicemen do not react to provocations and do not return fire.
