Turkey sends armored vehicles to Idlib province in Syria

28.07.2020,

The Turkish army sent two military convoys to Idlib province on July 28, a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s source informed.

According to the source, two convoys consist of armored vehicles.

It was specified that convoys entered Syrian territory through Kafr Lusin checkpoint and headed to the Turkish observation posts in Idlib province.

On July 26, the Turkish military sent construction materials to their observation posts.

Background

In early 2020, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) made serious progress in liberating the territory of Idlib province from militants. The actions of Assad’s troops provoked an extremely strong reaction from Turkey, which supports the militants.

Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan threatened Syria with a military operation in Idlib. As a confirmation of his words, in February 2020 the Turkish army began to intensively redeploy troops to Idlib and organized new observation posts along the Syrian soldiers’ way, preventing the SAA from moving forward.

In short time, the Turkish army redeployed several hundred armoured vehicles to Idlib, including Leopard 2A4 tanks, T-155 Fırtına self-propelled howitzers and T-122 Sakarya multiple launch rocket systems and several thousand soldiers.

Although a temporary was established following talks between Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on March 5, Turkey continues to send convoys to secure its groups in Idlib and its observation posts.
