International activists hold virtual concert in honor of Cuban doctors

19.07.2020, Mexico City.

Dozens of musicians, artists and activists held a virtual “Concert for Cuba” in honor of medical professionals from the island fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in more than 30 countries, La Jornada media reported on July 19.

The words of solidarity and support for Cuba were heard emotionally – between music, poetry and dance – at a concert dedicated to the island,” the report said.

It is noted that the concert featured various works ranging from the cadenza of Omara Portuondo with the Failde orchestra to libertarian poems by beat-poet Margaret Randall.

In general, the artists expressed their solidarity with Cuba and denounced the United States and European Union embargo policy against the island.

It is stressed that the event was an idea of the HotHouse in Chicago Executive Director Margaret Horberg. Its main objective was to strengthen cultural exchanges with Cuba and lift the embargo.

The concert was held in two parts on Saturday and Sunday.
