The US army units train militants in the occupied “free zone” near Al-Tanf, the Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on July 16.
Zakharova stressed that in the areas of the US military illegitimate presence terrorism has not been eradicated, because the US trains Islamists and supplies arms to them.
“Reportedly, the US forces that occupy the ‘security area’ around the town of Al-Tanf train and supply arms to the militants of the Maghawir Al-Thawra (organization banned in Russia) illegal armed groups for subversive actions in other parts of Syria,” Zakharova said.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, the most complicated situation maintains in Idlib and on the eastern bank of the Euphrates. Also, the Russian-Turkish patrols in the de-escalation zone in the northwest of the country face active resistance of the rebel groups. On July 14, servicemen in a Russian-Turkish convoy suffered from an explosion of a landmine.
The shelling against the Syrian army has increased in intensity along the contact line. On July 11, a terrorist drone attack against the Hmeymim Russian airbase was repulsed.
