Estonian saboteur on the Ukrainian army’s service killed in Donbass

Estonian saboteur Nikolay Ilyin from the Ukrainian reconnaissance group was killed in Donbass during an attempt to approach the Zaitsevo settlement near Gorlovka on 13 July, he Deputy Defense Minister of Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Eduard Basurin told journalists on July 16.

He said that this was the second saboteur of the Ukrainian army found in the Gorlovka area. The first saboteur found dead was a U.S. citizen Sean Fuller, callsign “Texas”. Presumably, both saboteurs exploded on Ukrainian mines.

Basurin noted that Estonian citizen Ilyin was well equipped with NATO countries’ equipment and weapons. A rifle, a helmet, a bulletproof vest, a night vision device, ballistic goggles, a tactical flashlight and an action camera were found in his possession.

On 16 July, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu also confirmed the death of an Estonian citizen in Donbass. The deceased came to Estonia from Belarus in 2006, renounced his Belarusian citizenship and received Estonian citizenship. However, Reinsalu did not specify any details about the deceased.
