The presence of the so-called US military advisors in Colombia suggests that an illegitimate invasion of Venezuela can take place any moment, the Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a press conference on June 4.
Zakharova noted that units of a security force assistance brigade are coming one of these days to Colombia from the USA, according to an official statement. She pointed out that these are several hundred military advisors with experience of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. This is the first time that specialists of this level are sent to Colombia, Zakharova added.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman expressed doubt that such military advisors will indeed be responsible for the claimed security assistance.
“Their presence in the immediate vicinity of Venezuela is simply a signal that another illegitimate invasion of the country can take place any moment,” Zakharova said.
The Commander of the US Southern Command Craig Faller said on May 28 that the Pentagon would send to Colombia a security force assistance brigade. According to Faller, the US unit will demonstrate commitment to countering drug trafficking and maintaining peace in the region as well as promotion of common ideals and values. The US units will stay in Colombia for four months.
