Russian Foreign Ministry: U.S. military funds Richard Lugar Centre for Public Health Research in Georgia

27.05.2020, Moscow.

Biological research conducted at the Richard Lugar Centre for Public Health in Georgia is funded and controlled by the U.S. military, reads an official commentary of the Russian Foreign Ministry published on May 27 on the official website of the ministry.

“Despite the alleged “full control and funding” of this bio-laboratory by the Government of Georgia, the studies conducted there (along with operational costs, including security) are actually supervised and paid for by the U.S. military department and its affiliated structures,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a comment.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the fact that the Department of Medical Research of the U.S. Army the Richard Lugar Centre for Public Health is being controlled by U.S. Army Medical Research Directorate is confirmed by the experiments on using insects as carriers of particularly dangerous biological agents and designing ammunition containing chemical agents or “infectious agents”, which are conducted there.

On May 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about the lack of response from the Georgian leadership to the request for Russian experts to visit the Richard Lugar Research Center for Public Health.

The proximity of such a center to the borders of the Russian Federation, as well as the lack of information about the research conducted there, causes reasonable concern of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
