Russian Aerospace Forces resume strikes against militants in Syria – observers

The Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation destroyed positions of Islamic State (organization banned in Russia) in Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) informed on May 27.

According to SOHR, the Russian aircraft stroke the IS (organization banned in Russia) positions in the Raqqa desert. Previously, militants attacked units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in this area.

The IS (organization banned in Russia) militants resumed their operations in the spring of 2020. They used the coronavirus pandemic to attack stations of the Syrian army and police.

The governmental forces supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed the major parts of the IS (organization banned in Russia) in Syria by the end of 2017. Since then, only sporadic terrorist groups operating underground remain in the country.
