20.05.2020, Kiev.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has initiated a pre-trial investigation for the offence of high treason and of abuse of power, or on abuse of functions. The press service of the Office of Ukrainian Prosecutor General stated this on May 20.

“According to Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Derkach’s application, information has been recorded in the URPI (the Unified Registry of Pre-trial Investigations) – under part 1 of article 111 and part 2 of article 364,” the press service said.

On May 19, Andriy Derkach, a non-factional Ukrainian parliament member, made public audio materials during a press conference, which allegedly contain a recording of talks between ex-president of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko and representatives from the administration of former U.S. President Barack Obama.

From these materials, Derkach accused Poroshenko of acting under external control from the United States during his time in office, as well as acts of corruption.
