Russian Deputy Foreign Minister accuses the West of cultivating Russophobia and Sinophobia

14.05.2020, Moscow.

Presentation of medical aid provided by Russia and China as a part of plans to strengthen geopolitical influence is a manifestation of Russophobia and Sinophobia, said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on May 14 at the presentation of “Not to become wild in the ‘crumbling world’” report prepared by the Valdai international discussion club.

Medical aid, provided and being provided by Russia and China to other countries, is being presented as a desire to use humanitarian assistance to strengthen geopolitical influence, said Ryabkov. It is yet another example of Russophobia and Sinophobia which are actively cultivated “in some western states”.

The diplomat astonishment that countries, even under the threat of a pandemic, are not looking for a common solution, but for those being “guilty”. According Ryabkov, the greatest concern is the desire to м international law under the guise of a coronavirus pandemic. He noted that this is done to settle scores with geopolitical rivals or unwanted governments.

Ryabkov noted that the loss of leadership by the “Atlantic camp” in many sectors leads these countries to the temptation to “solve their internal problems by looking for external enemies”.

The U.S. launched an information campaign against China, which they accuse of spreading coronavirus. For example, the U.S. leadership calls the coronavirus “China’s virus”. Moreover, the U.S. believes that the virus was developed in a Chinese laboratory in Wuhan.

China, in turn, points to the facts confirming that the source of infection is in the United States. This is indicated both by the extent of coronavirus spread and by recent studies substantiating the earlier outbreak of the epidemic in the US.
