In Ukraine, the police arrest a pensioner for posting the Victory Day greeting cards

The Ukrainian police used the greeting cards with the image of a red star and a St. George’s ribbon as a reason for arresting a pensioner from Krivoy Rog, the regional police department informed on its page in Facebook.

According to the message, unknown residents of the city informed the police on March 4, 2020, that the pensioner distributed the greeting cards with communist symbols for free and posted them.

The policemen detained the 66-years-old man and found 20 greeting cards in his possession. The pensioner said that he painted all the cards at home with his own hands.

A criminal case was opened against the man for distribution of communist symbols, which are prohibited in Ukraine. The article of law stipulates a punishment of up to five years in a correctional facility with confiscation of property.

On May 1, 2020, a 52-years-old man placed the flag of the Soviet Union over his house in one of the villages in Odessa region; he explained that in this way he wanted to celebrate the International Workers’ Day.

The police arrested the man, removed the flag and opened a criminal case. The man could face a jail term and confiscation of property.
