Donetsk People’s Republic urges international community to protect civilians

07.05.2020, Donetsk.

The Ombudswoman of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Darya Morozova urged international organizations to prevent further escalation of the Donbass conflict, the Donetsk News Agency reported on May 7.

Morozova used this statement to draw the international community’s attention to the acts of shelling of DPR civilians by the Ukrainian military. Two children and three adults were wounded by the Ukrainian army’s shelling in the south of the Republic on May 7. A military serviceman who tried to help them was killed.

“After this happened, I addressed international organizations. I urge the international community to express its legal evaluation of Ukraine’s actions and to use all available means to prevent further escalation of the conflict and to return to peaceful dialogue in the framework the Minsk negotiation process,” the Ombudswoman said.

According to Morozova, in addition to the Minsk agreements, Ukraine violates the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

It was previously reported that three girls sustained shrapnel wounds during shelling in the western part of Donetsk on May 4. On May 3, another child was wounded during shelling of the Zolotoye-5 settlement.
