China delivers humanitarian aid to Cuba despite the United States sanctions

04.05.2020, Beijing.

Humanitarian aid collected by Chinese students was delivered to Cuba despite U.S. sanctions, the Global Times newspaper informed on May 3.

More than 280 Chinese students, who had previously studied in Cuba under a scholarship provided by the island authorities, collected about 140,000 yuan ($ 19,823). This money was used to purchase 420 sets of protective medical equipment as well as 38,750 medical masks.

After the medical supplies were collected, the Cuban embassy in China stated that it was virtually impossible to deliver it because of the United States sanctions imposed on Cuba.

However, a joint effort of the Cuban and Chinese authorities soon enabled them to find a delivery channel that was able to deliver the supplies bypassing the United States sanctions.

The Chinese authorities noted that they paid particular attention to the quality of the medical supplies when purchasing the equipment and also promised to provide assistance again if needed.
