Turkey sends missile launchers to Syria

25.04.2020, Idlib.

The new Turkish military convoy was sent to Syria, a source of Rossa Primavera News Agency in Syria informs on April 25.

According to the source, the convoy with rocket launchers entered through the border checkpoint Kafr Lusin.

It went to Turkish bases in Idlib province.

Background

In early 2020, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) achieved serious success in liberating Idlib province from militants. The actions of Assad’s forces provoked an extremely strong reaction from Turkey that supports some of the militant groups.

Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened Syria with a military operation in Idlib. As a confirmation of his words, the Turkish army began to transfer troops to Idlib in February 2020 very intensively and started building new observation points along the way for Syrian soldiers, preventing the SAA from moving forward.

In a short time period, the Turkish Army relocated several hundred armored vehicles to Idlib, including Leopard 2A4 tanks, Self-propelled artillery units – T-155 “Firtina”, multiple rocket launchers T-122 “Sakarya” and several thousand soldiers.

Although a temporary truce was set following talks between Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on 5 March, Turkey continues to conduct convoys to secure its group in Idlib and its observation posts.
