The U.S. military tested biological weapon on their own citizens in the state of San Francisco in 1950, the Público Portuguese daily national newspaper informed on April 20.

From 20 to 27 September 1950, the U.S. military units conducted the Sea-Spray operation to study the effects of biological weapons on humans. The actual details of the operation were published in 1976.

The purpose of the experiment was to determine how bacteria would spread in a large city, with a high population density, and how they would spread through the wind and clouds. As Público’s journalists pointed out, similar experiments were conducted on the inhabitants of the city of Key West and the Calhoun County.

On March 11, the head of the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Robert Redfield said at a hearing in Congress that some of the patients who died earlier in the country could be infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. On April 5, the U.S. authorities began testing the country’s residents for antibodies to the disease in order to get some personnel back to work.
