Russian Security Council reports militants’ attempts to enter Russia from Syria and Iraq

10.04.2020, Moscow.

Attempts to move militants to Russia from Syria and Iraq continue, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolay Patrushev said on April 10 at a video conference with the Ural region.

“Attempts continue to be made to deploy persons with combat experience from Syria and Iraq to our country,” Patrushev said. According to the Secretary of the Security Council, this is due to the activity of international terrorist organizations.

The militants widely use the Internet to recruit supporters. In 2019, security services blocked 135 thousand extremist materials on the net. “This is almost twice as many as in 2018,” Patrushev noted.
