South Korea may become the "second Wuhan"

South Korea has the highest number of coronavirus COVID-19 cases outside China, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports on February 24.

Seven South Koreans have died among 883 people infected with the virus. 31 people were identified having the virus in South Korea as early as February 18. No one died among those, some have since recovered. However, the number of people infected with the virus reached 883 between February 19 and 24.

According to South Korea Ministry of Health and Welfare, the number of infected increased by 231 in just one day on February 24. The center of the outbreak is located in the city of Daegu, the fourth largest in the country (2.4 million people), and the surrounding North Gyeongsang Province.

80% of infected with the virus comes from there. The Shincheonji Church of Jesus in Daegu, the religious group with 12 offices throughout the country and 200 thousand devotees is the middle of the outbreak. The infection began to spread among Shincheonji members.

The causes of the infection and its outbreak are not yet clear. Diagnostic laboratories in the country are operating at full capacity. There are cases of infection among doctors and medical staff. The parliament has stopped working (there are also cases of infected people).

The largest number of cases is in China – 77345 people. There, 2593 people have died. The second-highest number of cases outside China is in South Korea. In Russia, there are two cases: in the Tyumen region and the Trans-Baikal Territory. No one has died.
