Polish Seim puts all blame on USSR despite historic facts

15.01.2020, Warsaw.

The Polish Seim members adopted a resolution about equal accountability of Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union for initiating World War Two. The document was published at the website of the Seim of the Republic of Poland.

According to the Seim members, Russian top officials use allegedly falsified and provocative statements “in an attempt to force accountability for starting World War Two on Poland.” The Polish parliament members insist that “World War Two was started by two totalitarian forces of that period, Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union.”

The authors of Polish Seim’s resolution also mention the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, “After the shameful Molotov-Ribbentrop deal was signed in Moscow on August 23, 1939, Poland and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe became the first victims of the two totalitarian systems.”

The document stresses that the Polish parliament disagrees with the withdrawal to imperial history rewriting, which makes a step back in the historical dialogue with Russia and other countries.

The strong reaction of the Polish side took place after Vladimir Putin’s speech in which he called “anti-Semitic swine” the Polish ambassador to Berlin in 1933 to 1939 Józef Lipski. Warsaw even wanted to officially “forbid” Russia to discuss Polish history.

Meanwhile, Poland was a party to the Munich Betrayal, which took place one year before the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed. Under the Munich Betrayal, Poland annexed Zaolzie from Czechoslovakia. Poland did everything to divide Czechoslovakia; it refused to allow the Red Army to pass across its territory to defend Czechoslovakia’s independence.
