A video showing two MIG-31K fighters exercise target-firing the Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missile during Russia’s Black Sea and Northern Fleets joint drills in the Black Sea released by the Zvezda TV-channel on January 10.

Commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov had led the Black Sea and Northern Fleets drills in the Black Sea.

During the exercises in the Black Sea, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu oversaw the MIG-31K fighter jet target-firing launch of the Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missile.

The video was recorded from the cockpit of the second fighter.

The drills involved more than 30 ships and 40 aircraft, as well as a submarine.

It should be mentioned that the news about new hypersonic weapons, including a ballistic hypersonic missile, was announced during Putin’s Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly on March 1,2018. Kinzhal (“dagger”) is capable of reaching Mach 10 speed, and guaranteed to perform evasive maneuvers to circumvent any existing and developing defense systems. The missile’s flight range is up to two thousand kilometers, the “dagger” is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.
