Zelensky caught forging Paris summit documents

12.12.2019, Kiev.

Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky falsified the final communique of the summit of the Normandy four, which was held on Monday in Paris, Yuriy Boyko’s Ukrainian Opposition Platform – For Life party stated on its website December 11th.

Members of the Opposition Platform compared variants of translations of the communique into Russian and Ukrainian with the original, and they found differences, which they posted on the party’s website.

The original in English in the first paragraph of item 2 reads as follows, “The sides express interest in agreeing within the Normandy format (N4) and the Trilateral Contact Group on all the legal aspects of the Special Order of Local Self-Government – special status – of Certain Areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions – as outlined in the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements from 2015 — in order to ensure its functioning on a permanent basis”.

The exact translation into Russian reads, “the Parties Express their interest in agreeing within the Normandy format (N4) and the Trilateral Contact Group on all legal aspects of the special order of local self-government, the special status of certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, as specified in the ‘Package of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements’ of 2015 to ensure its operation on a permanent basis”.

However, on the official website of the President of Ukraine, according to the Opposition Platform, this text is translated with distortions, “The parties Express their interest in reaching agreements within the Normandy format (N4) and the Trilateral contact group on all legal aspects of the Law on the special order of local self-government (on the special status) of certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions…”

Instead of a special order, the Ukrainian version talks about a law on the special status of Donbass, which is not the same, since the special status can be regulated not only by this law, but also by other acts. In addition, the wording of the law defining the order of special management is not recorded anywhere.

The Opposition Platform – For Life party demands that the official translation of the communique be corrected immediately, and to punish those guilty of falsification.

On December 11, members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the ruling party, Servant of the People, introduced a bill to change the law on the special status of Donbass. The law on the special status of Donbass expires on January 1, 2020.

On December 9 the most recent in a series of summits conflict settlement in Donbass was held in Paris, with the leaders of Russia, Germany, France, and Ukraine participating in the so-called Normandy format.
