Unknown assailants attacked an illegal US military base in Syria, Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reports on December 6.
The attacked US military base was set up near the al-Omar oil field in the northeastern part of Deir Ez-Zor province.
According to the correspondent, the attack took place when a convoy with military equipment arrived at the base.
In response, the US forces opened artillery fire.
The US and its allies have conducted an illegal military operation in Syria since 2014.
In December 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to complete a full withdrawal of US troops from Syria.
In October 2019, the US leader said that his country would leave some troops in Syria to secure the oil fields located in the northeastern provinces of the country.
