Putin proposes that BRICS condemn glorification of fascism

14.11.2019, Brasília.

Any attempts to glorify Nazis and their accomplices must be condemned, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin proposed on November 14 in his address at the BRICS plenary session in the capital city of Brazil.

Vladimir Putin reminded the participants of the summit that the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two and of the establishment of the UN will be celebrated in the coming year, 2020. Therefore, he believes, it would be very important for the BRICS countries to make a statement condemning fascism and supporting the world order based on international law and the UN Charter.

The summit of the BRICS countries is taking place on November 13-14 in the capital city of Brazil, South America. It is expected that after his talk at the plenary session Vladimir Putin will meet with the members of the BRICS Business Council as well as the administration of the New Development Bank.

BRICS includes five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Until December 2010, South Africa was not a member of the association, which was called BRIC.

Although the idea to establish the association was discussed since early 2000s, the member countries began to actually cooperate within BRIC after the first meeting of their foreign ministers in this format in September 2006. Today, the BRICS countries collectively cover about 30% of the land with 42% of the world’s population, and their gross national product is 18% of the global.
