Kurginyan: Minsk agreements are the only compromise with Ukraine

05.11.2019, Moscow.

The Minsk agreements were Russia’s compromise with Ukraine, the leader of the Essence of Time movement and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on the Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.

“We [Russia ― Rossa Primavera News Agency] will never move beyond this compromise. The Minsk agreements must be strictly observed,” the political scientist stressed.

Radical nationalists are charging Vladimir Zelensky with a mission of  revising the Minsk agreements. “This is what they want from him. All this speculation etc. is around this,” the expert explained.

The Minsk agreements were signed in September 2014 between Russia, Ukraine, the Lugansk and the Donetsk People’s Republics. The agreements provided for complete cessation of the Ukrainian army’s hostilities against Donbass’ population.

A “Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements” was adopted in 2015, where France and Germany guaranteed the agreements reached.

According to the Minsk agreements, the Donbass republics must maintain their autonomy as parts of Ukraine and keep their own internal security troops. Also, the agreements provide for full amnesty for all participants of the hostilities.
