Shoygu: Prisons with Islamists left unguarded in Syria

The Turkish military operation left 12 prisons holding foreign militants unguarded, the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu stated at the Plenary meeting of the IX Beijing Xiangshan Forum, Radio Sputnik reports.

The minister warned that the terrorists, who have been left unguarded in prisons could escape and return to their home countries. He called upon the international community to unite in the face of terrorism and to jointly oppose terrorist propaganda and ideology.

Shoygu reminded that Russian is ready to share its tremendous experience with its partners in the Asia-Pacific region.

Turkey started “Operation Peace Spring” in Syria on October 9. This operation targeted the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which is considered as a terrorist organization by the Turkish authorities, and against ISIL* (organization banned in Russia).
