Russian “Tigers” patrol liberated Syrian city

16.10.2019, Manbij.

Russian military police officers carried out the first patrol of Syrian city of Manbij in the eastern part of the Aleppo province, Russian military police representative Safar Safronov informed on October 16.

The Russian military patrolled the city in Tigr [Tiger in English – translator’s note] armored cars with Russian and Syrian flags. The operation lasted about 3 hours.

Safarov noted that the hostilities between the Kurds and the Turks automatically cease because the conflicting parties fear injuring Russian military personnel. The US military blocked the previous attempts to enter the city due to a misunderstanding about dividing the areas of responsibility.

The Russian military police continue to patrol the territory to ensure security for the local population, Safarov stressed.

In the summer of 2016, Kurdish military groups from the People’s Defense Units liberated Manbij from the ISIL (organization banned in Russia) terrorists.

On October 9, 2019, Turkey started “Operation Peace Spring” against the Kurdish armed groups in northern Syria. The Syrian authorities sent military personnel to the northern borders to counter the Turkish aggression.

On October 15, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Syrian army had entered the city of Manbij.
