CNN: Kurt Volker leaves post of US Special Representative for Ukraine

29.09.2019, Washington.

The US Department of State Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, asked to resign, CNN reported on September 27.

CNN quoted three unnamed sources saying that the reason for the resignation was the publication a complaint by a member of one the US national security services, which disclosed the essence of the conversation between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky.

The State Department has not yet officially confirmed Volker’s resignation as Special Representative for Ukraine.

Kurt Volker was summoned to the US Congress to participate in the hearings on Trump’s contacts with Zelensky, during which, according to the congressmen, the US president put pressure on the president of Ukraine. The US president demanded that the Kiev authorities investigate the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, which is directly linked to Joseph Biden’s son.

According to many experts, the former US vice-president is the most dangerous Democratic opponent in the 2020 elections for the Republican Trump.

The situation around Trump’s supposed “pressure” on Zelensky led to the initiation of impeachment proceeding against the president.
