Iranian Foreign Minister attends G7 summit

26.08.2019, Biarritz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif attended the G7 summit in France, Islamic Republic of Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Musawi said on his Twitter page on August 25.

Musawi noted that Zarif went to the meeting in Biarritz at the invitation of French Foreign Minister Le Drian.

However, no negotiations with the US are expected.

The US expresses its clear hostility towards Iran. On 25 June 2019, US President Donald Trump stated that destroying Iran is a possibility.

The Group of Seven (G7) is an association of economically developed countries, which includes seven states: the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Japan, Canada, Italy and France. Previously Russia was in the list and the group was called The Group of Eight (G8), but after Crimea’s reunification with Russia in 2014, Western countries refused to participate in the G8 and switched to the G7 format.
