Ukrainian community ridicules British fairy tales about Crimea

14.08.2019, Simferopol.

The permanent representative of the United Kingdom to the UN Karen Pierce received an invitation to search for disadvantaged Ukrainian citizens in Crimea from the head of the Ukrainian community in Crimea Anastasiya Gridchina on August 14, RIA Novosti informs.

Gridchina called Pierce’s speech a fairy tale comparable to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and invited the permanent representative to visit the peninsula to search for Crimeans with only Ukrainian citizenship.

The first deputy speaker of the State Council of Crimea Efim Fiks invited Pierce to the peninsula, and he explained that the situation for persons without citizenship in Russia and the United Kingdom (UK) is different. In the UK, people without British citizenship are deprived of all civil rights and normal living conditions; whereas in Russia, a residence permit is enough to have all rights granted by the law.

He also asked the UK to take care of its own ethnic minorities instead of meddling in the business of others.

The day before, the permanent representative of the United Kingdom claimed in her speech at the United Nations Security Council that Ukrainian citizens who live in Crimea and have not changed their citizenship are facing “terrible” conditions, and they are deprived of basic services.

Western politicians and social activists regularly make unfounded statements such as claims regarding the genocide of Crimean Tatars and other ethnic groups. They, however, do not provide any evidence for these claims.
