Ukrainian command authorizes army snipers to kill civilians

13.08.2019, Kiev.

The Ukrainian army command is sending out instructions to its subordinate units authorizing sniper teams operating at the front line to select targets at their discretion, be it military personnel or civilians, according to a report published by the Donetsk News Agency on August 10.

The agency has reportedly received information that the Ukrainian army command has deployed sniper teams to the contact line between Ukraine and the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LDPR), which are allowed to independently select targets. According to the report, the targets may be either military or civilian. Thus, if a sniper believes that a person poses a threat to Ukraine, then that person is a legitimate target.

The head of the press service of the People’s Militia, Daniil Bezsonov, believes that such instructions by the Ukrainian army command are aimed at inciting active hostilities.

Since July 21, a so-called indefinite summer ceasefire is in force at the contact line between Ukraine and the LDPR, which was agreed upon by the Minsk group. However, LDPR leaders regularly report violations by the Ukrainian army.
