President Erdoğan should find out the opinion of the Crimean Tartar population of the Crimean Peninsula, said the leader of the national cultural autonomy of the Crimean Tartars Eyvaz Umerov, Profi-News reports on August 8.
As the leader of the cultural autonomy, Eyvaz Umerov noted that Erdoğan’s statement about non-recognition of Crimea as Russian is not in line with the status of the Russian-Turkish relations. This kind of relations, in his opinion, can hardly be called partnership.
Umerov noted that Crimea became Russian by a decision of an overwhelming majority of its citizens, including the Crimean Tartar population. The Crimean Tartars living in Crimea identify themselves as Russian nationals, and their rights are fully respected.
Umerov also recommended that Erdoğan should visit the peninsula more often, look into the life of the Crimean Tartars, and talk to them, but not to “representatives” of the Crimean Tartar people who fled from their motherland.
The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan again refused to recognize that the Republic of Crimea is Russian. At a meeting with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in Ankara he expressed support to “the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
