Kiev has asked Washington to sell more Javelin anti-tank missiles, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. William Taylor said in an interview to Radio Liberty Ukraine on August 5.
The US diplomat explained that this Ukraine’s will to purchase more missiles is defensively oriented.
Back in March, Kurt Volker, Special Representative of the US State Department for Ukraine, spoke about Kiev’s interests in purchasing this specific type of weapons.
According to another Ukrainian web portal, V Chas Pik, Zelensky’s administration is refusing to comment on the Javelin deal request.
On July 7, William Taylor said that Ukraine made its first official request to the USA for the sale of US-made weapons. Neither Taylor nor the US Embassy has revealed the exact type of weapons.
As early as July 8, during the EU-Ukraine summit, Ukrainian president Zelensky confirmed the intention to purchase weapons from the USA.
