Chief of Turkish General Staff explains worsening relations with USA. It’s not about the S-400.

25.07.2019, Ankara.

The relations between the USA and Turkey are exacerbating not because of arms purchases, but rather because of Turkey’s attempts to pursue independent foreign policy, the Chief of General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Ergin Saygun said, Güneş reports.

“This is not about S-400 or F-35. The USA does not want Turkey to become a regional power, and it is worried with Turkey’s independent foreign policy,” Saygun said.

The Chief of the Turkish General Staff stressed that if his country concedes the S-400 issue to the USA, this would only result in further demands.

The first shipment of the S-400 air defense system components began on July 12. In response, the USA announced that it stops supplying F-35 fighters to Turkey.
