Ukrainian Newsone TV channel received direct threats and intimidation after it announced a video conference between people from Ukraine and Russia on July 7, reports Newsone TV channel on its site.

The video conference with the Russian Rossiya-1 TV channel was announced as an attempt to have a dialogue between people of the two countries and without politicians. The “Space bridge” between the USSR and the US which took place in 1985 serves as a precedent.

“When we say: peace is necessary, certain political parties start misleading people and attacking our channel with accusations, which turn into direct threats and intimidation.” write the Newsone. “Those who do it do not want peace. They understand that peace is possible only after the negotiation process. Stopping the war and people dying – isn’t that today’s most important goal? Isn’t that what we all strive for?”

A number of high profile Ukrainian personalities such as Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, deputies Yulia Tymoshenko, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, Anna Gopko, Oleg Lyashko, as well as a former president Petro Poroshenko condemned the Newsone for their announcement. Among other things, they characterized the video conference initiative as “an invasion of the Ukrainian media space” and “the Kremlin’s influence”.  The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine filed a complaint demanding the cancellation of the TV show. Also, a mass protest due to the upcoming TV broadcast began in social media.
