Who attacked the tankers in Gulf of Oman? Trump assigns blame

15.06.2019, Washington.

Iran attacked the tankers in the Gulf of Oman, US President Donald Trump said on June 14 in an interview on the Fox & Friends program.

Donald Trump explained that Iran is responsible for the attack, referring to a video where an allegedly Iranian ship is removing an unexploded mine attached to the Japanese tanker. Trump added that the USA does not “take it lightly.”

Iranians “are a nation of terror and they’ve changed a lot since I’ve been president,” but “They are still a treat”, the US President noted.

On June 13, unidentified forces attacked two tankers in the Gulf of Oman. The ships were reportedly damaged with limpet mines. One of the crews included Russian nationals, but they were not hurt.

The attack on the tankers resulted in a 3% rise in oil prices. A similar attack took place on May 12 in the same area, the Gulf of Oman. Then the oil prices increased by 0.5%.

Previously, on May 5, US National Security Advisor John Bolton said that a US Navy aircraft carrier group and a group of B-52 strategic bombers were deployed by the US Central Command to the Middle East.
