Zelensky suggests Donbass be returned by oligarchs’ investments

05.06.2019, Brussel.

Economic investments in Donbass should be made to help return it under Kiev’s control, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky suggested on June 5 in Brussels in an interview to the Ukrainian 1+1 channel.

According to Zelensky, he holds meetings with Ukrainian magnates (particularly, with Viktor Pinchuk) encouraging them to invest their funds in Donbass infrastructure. The Ukrainian president is confident that “Donbass will definitely come back,” therefore he plans to continue holding such meetings. Zelensky said that one of the meetings will take place on June 5 and some more within one month.

At his inauguration ceremony on May 20, Vladimir Zelensky said that he intended to stop the conflict in Donbass, and that he “will go any lengths” to do so. However, according to the director of the Russian Center for Current Policy Aleksey Chesnakov, Donbass has no trust to the current president of Ukraine because he was brought to power by the enemies of the People’s Republics.
