Ukraine will lose prosperity and integrity if it leaves the Russian world

24.05.2019, Moscow.

Those who want to build an integral state in Ukraine by splitting the country from the Russian world will come to complete failure, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on May 23 at the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.

Kurginyan noted that, in the first place, prosperity per se cannot be a national idea; otherwise, the state becomes criminal; and secondly, a civilizational seam passes through Ukraine.

“This is a great civilizational seam between the Russian and the non-Russian parts. Anyone who wants to preserve the integrity of the state will watch this seam to ensure that it does not start moving,” he explained.

According to the political scientist, the forces in Ukraine that wanted to preserve unity were treated this seam with care to keep it in place. The Maidan, in contrast, neglected it. As a result, the seam “started moving in Donbass and in other places.”

“As soon as it started moving, the problem of Ukrainian state unity has gone,” he stressed.

“If they are so much willing to reach prosperity and become part of Europe, then they must leave what belongs to our side of the civilizational seam to those who want to stay at this side,” the political scientist added.

One of the reasons that led to the Euromaidan in Kiev in late 2013 was the refusal of the government and then president Viktor Yanukovich to sign the Association Agreement with the EU. As a result of protest actions, which killed about one hundred people, including law enforcement officials, the country’s political system was violently changed. According to the UN, over three thousand people were killed in the so-called anti-terrorist operation, which followed the secession of Crimea and the uprising in Donbass.
