DPR celebrates 5th anniversary with 40 thousand-strong march

The Timeline march dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the DPR took place on May 11 in Donetsk, Donetsk News Agency reports.

According to the organizers, approximately 40 thousand people participated in this large-scale event. Citizens and foreigners were carried photos of memorable episodes of the state’s history. The head of the Republic Denis Pushilin, ministers and parliamentarians led the march.

The Heads of the LPR and of the South Ossetia, the Prime-minister of Abkhazia, the Head of the Republic of Crimea, Russian State Duma deputies and guests from another 13 countries also attended the march.

The march headed from the Donetsk Institute to Lenin Square through Artem Street. The event ended with a concert that included Russian musicians. Celebratory fireworks took place at 9 PM.

The Timeline march was held in Donetsk for the first time, though the independence anniversary is celebrated annually.

The Donetsk People’s Republic was created following the referendum, which took place on May 11, 2014, and witnessed a 74,87% turnout. The independence of the Republic was backed by 89% of the votes.
