Four people killed during US “Operation Freedom” in Venezuela

04.05.2019, Caracas.

Two young protesters wounded during clashes in Venezuela died on May 2, Le Monde reports.

Thus, the number of victims of the coup d’etat attempt has reached four.

16 year-old Yosner Graterol was wounded during a manifestation on April 30 in the city of La Victoria on the north of the country; 14 year-old Yoifre Hernandez was killed during a clash in Caracas.

According to the Venezuelan Observatory for Social Conflict, 57 people have been killed, and another 239 were wounded this year.

Despite the failure of a coup d’etat attempt on May 1, which was cynically named “Operation Freedom”, the US protégé Juan Guaidó urged his supporters to maintain pressure on the government and to carry out “attacks on sectors” until “a general strike takes place.” However, the tension decreased on May 2, and the streets of Caracas were quiet; according to the French publication, “the last offensive” stopped.

21 patients in Venezuelan hospitals can be added to the number of victims; they died as a result of a blackout that took place on March 7 during a cyberattack on the Guri hydroelectric power plant.

By leveraging Venezuelan social problems, the USA is trying to overthrow the people’s government led by Nicolás Maduro. Despite the economic blockade, the freezing of Venezuelan accounts in Western banks, sabotage, threats, and bribery, the people support the government, and the military remains loyal to the constitution.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the US actions in Venezuela “violate international law,” and it has warned against any attempts of military aggression.
