Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs: 86% of Donbass residents want to become Russian citizens

30.04.2019, Rostov-on-Don.

86% of the residents of the Lugansk and the Donetsk People’s Republics (the LPR and the DPR) want to acquire Russian citizenship, a representative of the Main Directorate for Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Russian: MVD) of the Russian Federation Kirill Adzinov said at a meeting with journalists on April 30.

According to Adzinov, the information was obtained from a survey carried out in the republics.

The MVD official also reported that the ministry was ready to open more passport centers in the Rostov region if the available centers would be unable to handle the number of people applying for Russian passports.

On April 24, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a bill simplifying the procedure of issuing Russian passports to residents of the DPR and the LPR, which faced a negative reaction in Ukraine.
