Next meeting on Syria scheduled in Kazakhstan

The upcoming 12th global high-level meeting on Syria will take place in the city of Nur-Sultan on April 25-26, KazTAG Agency (quoting Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry’s press service) reports on April 16.

The following guarantor states will participate in the meeting: Iran, Russia and Turkey, the government of Syria and the Syrian opposition armed groups, as well as representatives of the UN and Jordan as observers.

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry expects the next round of talks to be devoted to discussing the most pressing issues regarding Syria, including the current development of the situation “on the ground”, in particular, in the province of Idlib and in northeastern Syria, and measures to further strengthen confidence between the sides of the conflict.

The discussion is expected to address the issues of facilitating the return of refugees and internally displaced persons, remedying the humanitarian situation and rebuilding the country after the conflict.

In addition, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry stated that “the provisional agenda includes a discussion of ways to advance the political process with an emphasis on completing the formation and launch of the Constitutional Committee, as well as the question of joining the negotiation process.”
