President of Ecuador accuses Assange of espionage on embassy territory

WikiLeaks website founder Julian Assange attempted to use the Ecuadorian embassy in London as “an espionage center” during his stay in there, President of Ecuador Lenín Moreno said to The Guardian on April 15.

According to Moreno, Ecuador received guarantees from the UK that they will respect all the rights of the detained Assange. The decision to deliver the WikiLeaks founder to the British authorities was not made under pressure, but it was based on international law, Moreno explained.

The founder of the WikiLeaks website Julian Assange, who the US and its allies are pursuing, was hiding from the British authorities in Ecuador’s embassy in London for seven years. After the Ecuadorian authorities changed, the British police detained Assange on the embassy’s territory.
