30.03.2019, Washington.

US State Department deputy spokesman Robert Palladino called on Russia to release several dozen “unjustly imprisoned” Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians on March 28 on his Twitter page.

Palladino reported that armed and masked FSB agents are terrorizing Crimean Tartar families. According to him, law enforcement officers arrested over 20 people.

We condemn the actions of the Russian occupation authorities in Crimea,” said the State Department spokesperson. Palladino called for the release of the arrested Crimean Tatars, as well as over 70 Ukrainians who have been unfairly detained, according to the US representative.

On March 27, more than two dozen members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir Al-Islami terrorist organization (organization banned in Russia) were detained during a special operation that took place in Crimea.

On March 28, Eyvaz Umerov, the Chairman of the Regional National and Cultural Autonomy of the Crimean Tatars of the Republic of Crimea, stated that the Crimean security sweep, which targeted radicals, is a blessing for the Crimean people. According to him, Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (organization banned in Russia) is an organizational structure which is controlled from abroad.
