Kurginyan: West tramples on international law, but demands others comply with it

17.03.2019, Moscow.

With its aggression in Kosovo, the West has trampled on international law, which caused a domino effect on a global scale, political analyst and leader of the “Essence of Time” movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on the air of “The Right to Know’’ TV program on the TVC channel on March 16.

According to him, after the West had recognized Kosovo, the Helsinki agreements, which guaranteed the inviolability of borders, were violated and irreversible processes began on a global scale. Under this circumstance, it is impossible to allow one and forbid others the right to self-determination, to obtain independence, or to choose a new citizenship. Once this was done in Yugoslavia, it is impossible to prohibit Crimea to leave Ukraine and reunite with Russia.

It is happening everywhere. This disintegration and self-determination of regions is beginning everywhere. This pot is starting to boiling. How can it be stopped in the Crimea, if it is being encouraged everywhere? Since they trampled on ‘Helsinki’ and said to hell with everything; in the absence of a legal framework, the territories began to disintegrate. Is it then even possible that it wouldn’t start everywhere else? This is a domino effect. Is it not clear that first it will be here and then elsewhere? Is it not clear enough that if the West did what it did in Kosovo, then it will continue in Catalonia, the Basque Country, Scotland, Ireland, Macedonia, Languedoc, in northern Italy, and so on? It is dread to think what they have unleashed,”  Kurginyan said.

According to Kurginyan, the West’s actions have boomeranged back to it, “They lifted their hand against the whole world order. They did it. What happened? The result was that it boomeranged back at them. And then at all of us have been dragged into this horror.

As a result of its citizens expressing their will in March 2014, the Crimea peninsula joined the Russian Federation. Western countries refused to recognize this reunion and insist on the “return” of Crimea to Ukraine. The West took a diametrically opposite position when Kosovo was provided with independence from Serbia under hard Western pressure and at the cost of bloodshed.
