Russian Representative to OSCE: Kiev ignores New Year ceasefire in Donbass

19.01.2019, Vienna.

The Ukrainian army began to violate the ceasefire regime as early as in the first days of the year, and it continues to do so, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE Aleksandr Lukashevich told journalists on January 18.

According to Lukashevich, as early as on the first day of the “pre-holiday” ceasefire, Ukrainian servicemen opened fire against the positions of the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics over 160 times. Sometimes the Ukrainian army masked these violations under the guise of exercises, shelling the positions of the Donbass defenders. The observers reported an incident on January 16, when the 17th Tank Brigade of the Ukrainian army held exercises.

In the Luganskaya settlement, as well as in the villages of Petrovskoye and Zolotoye, Ukrainian commanders violate the agreements, and they fail to withdraw their equipment.

Lukashevich also noted that the Ukrainian army attempted subversive acts in the past three weeks at the Donetsk water supply facilities, i.e. the Donetsk water filtration plant of the Voda Donbassa (Donbass Water) company, the Mironovskoye reservoir, where an item reminiscent of an improvised explosive device was found.

Ukrainian army’s provocative behavior not only violates the paragraphs of the agreements achieved, but it also results in victims. Over the past three weeks, four Donbass citizens were killed by Ukrainian military aggression.

The agreement achieved by the contact group members from each of the conflict sides became effective on December 29 at 01:01 AM Moscow time.
