Kurginyan: Ukraine is being divided, radicalized and incited to civil war

03.12.2018, Moscow.

The Ukrainian authorities want to lead the Ukrainian people into civil war and repressions, political scientist, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on December 2 on the air at the Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program.

Sergey Kurginyan noted that in today’s Ukraine, the authorities, along with utilizing direct violence, are seeking to polarize their own society. In this regard, the political scientist cited the attempt to bring schism into the united religious community.

While it was united, it could have been brought into your Ukrainian context. Not ours, but into yours. Now, it has become impossible to integrate a certain part of it,” emphasized Sergey Kurginyan.

The policy toward Donbass demonstrates the same thing.  Instead of bribing Donbass and promising every possible right, they provoked absolute hatred.

You lash out at Donbass as you do at the Church and the Russian language. There were a lot of Russian speaking people in Ukraine who could have become a part of your context,” said the expert.

The political scientist is convinced that the aim of such internal policy does not lie in joining Europe, nor does it aim to create a new Ukrainian state.

So the question arises: what are they doing? These people are radicalizing part of the society and transforming it to a radical anti-Russian core. At the same time, you say that they do not care that others are becoming pro-Moscow.  What will this policy result in? Civil war and repressions, and nothing more, because their essence is violence,” said Sergey Kurginyan.

Pyotr Poroshenko, who came to power in 2014 as a result of the coup d’etat, has repeatedly appealed to the Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, to have autocephaly granted to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Ukrainian President motivated his demands by the necessity of Ukrainian independence from Russia in the spiritual domain.

The Patriarch of Constantinople’s decision to withdraw his recognition of Ukraine as part of the canonical territory of the Moscow Patriarchate resulted in an aggravation of the Church schism.  Ukrainian authorities also launched a campaign against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) aimed at confiscating its property in favor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church  (Kiev Patriarchate). Following the Ukrainian Government’s decision, the Sviatogorsky Cave Monastery was returned to the Kremenets-Pochaivskiy Sanctuary. The Sanctuary personnel immediately began to take inventory of the monastery’s property. Metropolitan of Pochaev Vladimir spoke of pressure from the Ukrainian authorities.
