Russian Prosecutor General’s Office: William Browder financed US Democratic Party

20.11.2018, Moscow.

The US Democratic Party received nearly $2 million dollars in contributions from William Browder and his associates, Russian Prosecutor General’s Office spokesman told reporters Alexander Kurennoy on November 19.

Ziff Brothers and Hermitage Capital transferred donations repeatedly. Funds defrauded and transferred from Russia went to financing the US Democratic Party. Ziff Brothers transferred $400,000 in 2008 and up to $1.2 million dollars in 2016. In total, the amount of transferred funds is close to $2 million.

In December 2017, Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court issued a guilty verdict, according to which William Browder was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment in a penal colony and obliged to pay damages to the Russian Federation in the amount of 4.2 billion rubles. Earlier, Jon Benton, the former head of the UK National Crime Agency (NCA), stated that, despite of having sufficient documents to prove allegations, the investigation of money laundering from Russia to the UK was ended on orders from a senior official.

At the moment, an investigation is underway into the deaths of Browder’s associates: Valery Kurochkin, Oktay Hasanov and Sergey Korobeinikov. Initially, the case was charged as “murder” based on the evidence. The data obtained suggest the possible violent nature of their deaths. The prosecutor’s office believes that, since the deaths of the persons mentioned occurred immediately after the crime was committed under Browder’s leadership, the killing of accomplices may have taken place in order to get rid of any witnesses.
