Lugansk People’s Republic diplomat: Election in Republics pulls out the rug from under Ukrainians' feet

13.11.2018, Lugansk.

The elections in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), which were performed in accordance with all democratic standards, have undermined Kiev’s intentions to deny the LPR the quality of being an independent actor at the negotiations in Minsk and other sites, the LPR representative at the contact group for the resolution of the situation in eastern Ukraine Rodion Miroshnik said, TASS reported on November 12.

According to the diplomat, Kiev would have preferred the lack of any statehood and democratically elected leaders in the Republics, which would have allowed the Ukrainian side to ignore the LPR and DPR officials at international meetings and negotiations.

“The voters elected an authority in Donbass, and Kiev will have to respect it and its officials,” Miroshnik said.

On November 11, parliamentary elections took place in the DPR and the LPR. The leaders of the Republics were also elected. Currently, Denis Pushilin and the Donetsk Republic social movement head the poll at the DPR elections, and Leonid Pasechnik and the Peace to the Lugansk Land movement are in the lead in the LPR.
