Kurginyan: Russia’s salvation lies in strategic solitude

23.10.2018, Moscow.

Strategic solitude is the only chance for Russia to achieve a large-scale victory, said Sergey Kurginyan, a political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement, on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program at the Russian Channel One on October 21.

Russia is facing strategic solitude. And this is excellent. This is the only chance for victory,” said the political scientist, adding that “as soon as Russia finds itself in this strategic solitude and a situation of certainty, an economy of solitude, an ideology of solitude and everything else will emerge”.

Since solitude is meant only in relation to the West, and the modern world has ceased to be Western-centric,” stressed Kurginyan, then “while in this solitude, there will be a chance for a large-scale [Russian] strategic victory.”

In order to achieve this, it is necessary to first abandon the idea of integration with the West and then “start acting in a new paradigm”, believes the political scientist.

On October 20, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to withdraw of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty signed in 1987 by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan.

According to Kurginyan, the current Russian elite has lived for last 30 years dreaming of Russia’s accession into the Western world. However, a sharp deterioration occurred in the relations between Russia and the West in 2014 due to the reunification of Crimea and the Russian Federation as the result of a referendum.
