Kurginyan: Ukrainian authorities admit their guilt for burning people in Odessa

10.10.2018, Moscow.

The Ukrainian authorities’ official representative admitted that the death of people in the Odessa House of Trade Unions was not a tragic accident, but a conscious act of intimidation, Sergey Kurginyan, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, said on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program at the Russian Channel One on October 8th.

The guests of the TV program discussed the statement by the former deputy governor of the Odessa region, Zoya Kazanzhi, who on October 7, 2018 said that the burning of those who opposed the  Maidan in Odessa in 2014 brought great benefit, as it allowed to suppress the resistance of people who did not approve the armed coup in Kiev. Kazanzhi added that the timely killing of a small amount of people in the cities of Donetsk or Lugansk, like it was done in Odessa, would have helped to avoid mass bloodshed as a result of the Donbass conflict.

Sergey Kurginyan stressed that a statement of this kind symbolizes a new inhumane norm that has evolved in Ukraine in recent years, as Zoya Kazanzhi’s statement did not spark unanimous and harsh condemnation from Ukrainian society. The political scientist stressed that the neighboring country entered into an “absolutely fascist reality”, in which the former official glorifies terrorist acts of intimidation against her fellow citizens without any hesitation.

Sergey Kurginyan noted, “She (Zoya Kazanzhi, editor’s note) acknowledged that it is a terrorist state, ready to perform such actions. She exposed the previous myth completely … She did all that was necessary. She said, “That is us. I am not afraid to say that it is us. And we will continue to burn you to avoid worse consequences.”

On May 2, 2014, football fans and radical groups of Ukrainian nationalists set the Odessa House of Trade Unions on fire, causing a  massacre against opponents of the armed coup which took place in the capital of Ukraine. As a result of the Odessa tragedy hundreds of people were injured, and 48 of them died.
